Hi, I'm Julia Ihrenberger, and I've been drawing for most of my life but have been seriously working on my skills (mostly digitally) since around 2021.
My inspirations lie in comic books and manga, which put emphasis on lineart and page flow, which I find especially interesting and engaging.
CW 01: Comic Illustrations for Storytelling Device "Jakob"
Story Concept and Initial Art
"Jakob" is a storytelling device that my client, Stefan Priebsch, uses during one of his training seminars. The illustrations were meant to support and visualize his presentation to make it even more engaging and easy to understand. Thus, the illustrations were kept in a simple comic style that is easy to understand while not being too distracting.
Initial sketches were done for the main character "Jakob" as well as his deceased wife, his future employees and the storefront. The color yellow was chosen to represent Jakob's joy for cooking and experimentation which is later replaced by a more cool blue; Jakob then only goes by the books and rarely deviates from what works. His employees bring new life into his restaurant later on with employee Nr. 2 embodying Jakob's previous daring and innovative nature.
Final Illustration
For the final illustrations, a rendering style similar to watercolor artworks was chosen to evoke the feeling of a children's storybook or that of a graphic novel. Goal was to give the illustrations a light feeling to contrast and loosen up the presentation, making it even more memorable. Speech bubbles with proper text was omitted and the meaning within the scene instead conveyed via icons and small drawings to facilitate the usage in both German and English seminars.
